EPA Begins Enforcement
of the Lead RRP Law
Firms that have put off receiving the EPA Lead Renovation Repair and Painting (RRP) Training or are not following mandated procedures should caution, as the EPA has begun enforcing the requirements of their new law, enacted in April 2010. Many wondered how the EPA was going to enforce the RRP Law, they are doing so by using a “Secret Weapon,” the documentation required of your firm. The EPA doesn’t even need to leave their office to catch violators, a simple phone call asking to see your documentation can result in a fine of up to $32,500.
Most recently, Window World, Inc., of St. Louis was charged a $19,529 civil penalty for not providing residents with the lead hazard information pamphlet, a requirement of the RRP rule. As a part of the settlement, Window World is also performing a supplemental environmental project for a non-profit social services organization that will cost $20,048.
Business owners should avoid taking this risk, as EPA enforcement has begun. For more related information click here.
