Energy Audits
As the United States considers ways to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and the associated foreign oil imports, energy conservation is becoming a more prevalent method in reducing energy consumption. The foundation for energy conservation is an energy audit. Energy audits are an inventory of energy use in the building with an eye on revealing energy conservation opportunities. Energy audits are likely to become more common in months to come with the slowly rebounding economy. With limited funds available for new construction, Owners and local governments are attempting to make their existing portfolio of properties more energy efficient.
The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG), funded by the federal government through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Recovery Act) of 2009 demonstrates the federal government's commitment to deploy the cheapest, cleanest, and most reliable energy technologies we have-energy efficiency and conservation-across the country. This program provides funds for upgrading existing buildings with energy saving features. Energy savings features that are most likely to yield favorable payback periods include:
· Upgraded lighting fixtures and controls
· Programmable thermostats
· Envelope improvements - sealing and insulating
· High efficiency HVAC systems
· High efficiency water heating systems
· High performance windows
· Demand controlled ventilation for commercial buildings
GLE can assist our clients with determining the most beneficial projects to undertake based on payback analysis.
