University of Florida: GLE has served as the primary asbestos consultant for the University of Florida (UF) since 1997. Since then, we have successfully performed over 624 projects with services in the areas of asbestos and lead-based paint consulting. Our services have also included radon testing, industrial hygiene sampling, Indoor Air Quality building commissioning and Environmental Site Assessments.

GLE provided professional consulting services for the “deconstruction,” demolition design and hazardous materials abatement of the 150,000 SF Hume Hall, centrally located on campus. This unique project included requirements for the salvage and/or recycling of nearly 14,000 cubic yards (CY) of concrete and block, 400 tons of scrap iron and rebar, nearly 300 CY of brick and the removal and replanting of 30 trees on the site. Additionally, the project included the asbestos abatement of nearly 120,000 SF of floor tile and mastic, 2,000 linear feet of thermal system insulation and roof flashing material.

University of South Florida: GLE has performed numerous architectural, civil, mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering, construction management and asbestos projects for USF.

GLE provided AE design for renovation to an existing unused space within the MDT Physical Therapy Center for the future use as a laboratory; GLE also designed AE Improvements for the MLK Plaza and provided AE services for the replacement of the entry doors at the Main Library. GLE completed ADA surveys of more than 600 public restrooms for USF and designed ADA upgrades to public restrooms for ADA/FAC compliance where necessary.

GLE completed visual assessments and performed ambient air performance testing of two building halls in an attempt to determine the source(s) of water damage and elevated relative humidity within the buildings. GLE also providing engineering services for heat pipe repairs on various units throughout the Tampa campus.

GLE’s asbestos services have included facility surveys, contract administration, and monitoring. We have executed projects with extremely tight timeframes, including emergency response actions at minimal interruption to ongoing college activities and facility occupancy. These have included demolition surveys of the baseball and softball field complexes, which were completed within 48 hours to assure construction schedules were maintained.

GLE most recently has been involved in the Sun Dome renovation a high profile project on USF’s Tampa campus. The construction budget for this overhaul is estimated at $30 million. GLE is managing the environmental aspects of this project including work involving asbestos and mercury.
