Environmental Term Contract
GLE has served as the primary asbestos consultant for the University of Florida (UF) since 1997. Since then, we have successfully performed services in the areas of asbestos and lead-based paint (LBP) consulting, including contract administration, facility surveys, asbestos and LBP abatement design and asbestos/LBP project monitoring. Our services have also included radon testing, industrial hygiene sampling, Indoor Air Quality building commissioning and environmental site assessments. Under our continuing contract, we provide services in the areas of asbestos consulting, including contract administration, facility surveys, asbestos abatement design and monitoring. These services have been performed for the University of Florida Physical Plant’s Architecture/Engineering Department, the University Health Center, UF Housing, UF Institute of Food and Agricultural Services (IFAS), and UF Campus Planning and Construction Management.
GLE has provided demolition and hazardous material abatement design services for the 12,000 gsf Auditorium and Band/Chorus Buildings at the UF/P.K. Yonge Developmental School. GLE has successfully completed over 200 projects at the University of Florida’s Health Science Center. This facility consists of five buildings encompassing over 1.35 Million square feet, including hospital space, teaching laboratories, offices and classrooms. We also provided emergency response services associated with the disturbance of asbestos containing thermal system insulation within the Holland Law Center and the oversight for the initial clean-up responders. As part of our term contract with the University of Florida, GLE provided asbestos consulting services for the removal of asbestos-containing dust at the 40,000 square foot Heat Plant #2 facility at the Gainesville campus. GLE has recently provided professional consulting services for the “deconstruction,” demolition design and hazardous materials abatement of the 150,000 gross square foot (gsf) Hume Hall, centrally located on the Gainesville campus.

University of Florida Bookstore
The vision for building UF’s Welcome Center evolved from the dramatic need for a new campus bookstore. A desire to create the unity that is gained from combining programs and services that benefit students, faculty, staff and visitors was the basis for the decision to locate new bookstore adjacent to the J. Wayne Reitz Student Union. GLE Architects and PPI Construction Management brought the vision from the drawing board to reality for a total cost of $20.25 million. Financing for this multi-purpose facility came from a variety of sources–the student body through Capital Improvement Trust Funds, our business partners and the Business Services Division.
