Asbestos Reinspection and Database Development
GLE was contracted to conduct an asbestos reinspection of this 1,000,000 square foot facility. The work consisted of a review of previous asbestos surveys and drawings and re-assessing the condition of asbestos-containing building materials found in the 30 plus buildings comprising the Dublin facility. All previous survey testing and data was entered into GLE’s asbestos management system (AMS) database platform to assist the VAMC engineering, planning, and maintenance staff in managing their asbestos program.
The AMS database system was complemented by CADD drawings showing the location of each asbestos-containing building material present in the facility. This program allowed the VA to track the location, condition and quantity of asbestos, as well as abatement costs.
Field investigations included verification of the general location of all known ACM and the general accuracy of the previous abatement activity record drawings.
Warning labels were placed on ACM at locations where observations were made during the field investigations and at the entrances to all mechanical rooms, crawl spaces, attics and similar locations where signage was appropriate.
A final report was prepared to document the methodology employed in collecting the data, assembling the database and developing the CADD drawings.
