Architectural/Engineering Contract

GLE was selected as the consultant to provide architectural services to the Ocala Housing Authority (OHA). Via this contract, GLE completed needs assessments, design, contract document preparation and construction administration for various projects. Issues addressed include modernizations, 504 compliance, site improvements, mechanical and electrical system upgrades, and civil engineering issues. Additionally, because of our in-house environmental staff, GLE has successfully provided asbestos and lead-based paint consulting services to the OHA.

Currently GLE has designed 10 floor plans with various elevations and options, including an ADA compliant home, for the Paradise Trails Affordable Housing development.  OHA has already built 13 of these homes. Twelve families have moved in, and three more homes are under construction. Every consideration in terms of livability, accessibility, comfort and economy was addressed - the location of laundry facilities; the use of energy rated appliances; the front porch appearance – to give each home, and the entire community, an upscale feel even though it is an affordable housing development.  The designs and community are considered so successful that OHA decided to use this project as a submission for the Best In American Living Award for 2007 and won.

Asbestos Consulting Services

GLE also provided asbestos consulting services for the asbestos abatement project at the N.H. Jones and Forestview Housing Communities. The project included approximately 150 dwelling units at two separate sites and generally consisted of the removal of approximately 110,000 sf of asbestos-containing material (ACM) ceiling texture and drywall material.
