Since 1995, GLE has served as the primary facilities and environmental consultant for Sears Holdings Company in the southeast United States, where we have been responsible for overseeing environmental and building sciences operations in approximately 1,400 facilities, encompassing over 200 million square feet. GLE has performed over 2,000 projects for Sears, including full-facility surveys remediation design, onsite project management and operations and maintenance training for in-house employees. GLE also assists Sears with due diligence facility and environmental audits of sites prior to real estate transactions. We perform facility evaluations by assessing structural, mechanical and electrical components of the facility, including code compliance issues. We also perform soil and groundwater testing, document environmental conditions at Sears’ auto service facilities, conduct lead-based paint sampling and assessments and perform Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) testing services. With GLE’s onsite industrial hygienists, mechanical engineers, architects and construction managers, we have positioned ourselves as experts in not only testing for IAQ issues but also in evaluating building systems for quick determination, regarding likely sources and methods for remediation, as necessary.

During remediation projects, GLE’s project managers coordinate all  activities with Sears’ project managers to ensure that the projects run seamlessly with the general contractors’ efforts, while maintaining retail operations. Our project inspectors, who have in-depth knowledge regarding the various state and local regulations for compliance issues, oversee all contractor activities. To date, no Sears store has had their business negatively impacted by any project in which GLE has been involved. At the conclusion of each project, GLE provides clients with a final report summarizing construction and remediation activities and compliance testing performed, including all pertinent submittals and CAD drawings.

GLE also provides Sears with a rapid response team of professionals to evaluate and assess facilities post catastrophic events, such as floods, hurricanes and tornadoes. GLE’s team of professionals assist Sears with cost effective solutions to minimizes business continuity following a catastrophic event.
